This is how we landed in Northern Michigan from Detroit. My mom's grandmother, Clara, was a seamstress with Saks in Detroit. Upon becoming a widow in her 50's, she was asked if she would travel and handle alterations at the Palm Beach location during winter, and then at the Petoskey store during summer. She lived in a boarding house on Arlington Avenue and subsequently her daughters and their husbands visited. Daughter Hazel and husband Ed Crowle eventually bought a home in Harbor Springs. And Edward eventually purchased the Good Hart General Store with his daughter, current owner Carolyn Sutherland (from original owner Clifford Powers). And here we are.
